Red Rice Yeast to Lower Cholesterol Naturally

My husband has had the best success in lowering his cholesterol naturally using Nature’s Plus Red Yeast Rice Extended Release Supplements. His total cholesterol lowered from 256 down to 194 (62 points – 24%) in four weeks!

Red Rice Yeast and How it Works to Lower Cholesterol

Red Yeast Rice is a dietary supplement made from a by-product of yeast that is grown on rice ( Monascus purpureus ). It has been used for thousands of years with its first recorded use in China during the Tang dynasty 800 AD. At that time, it was documented to help stomach problems like indigestion and diarrhea, blood circulation and spleen health.

In the last ten years, it has gained popularity with natural health enthusiasts as a way to lower your cholesterol without taking a prescription drug like lipitor.

This dietary supplement works very much like prescription cholesterol lowering medicines. It contains monacolins statins which are substances that are known to inhibit cholesterol in the body. Even though it is considered a natural supplement, it also works within the body to a degree like the prescription medicines and can cause many of the same side effects.

The side effects can include disruption of the body’s ability to make COQ10 (required for muscle health) and liver irritation or damage. Therefore, it is recommended that a blood test be performed every four to six weeks to make sure the liver is not being irritated.

In addition, it is recommended that a COQ10 supplement also be taken daily while using this supplement.

How Red Rice Yeast – Nature’s Plus Extended Release Help Lower My Husband’s Cholesterol 62 Points!

My husband was diagnosed with hypertension and a high cholesterol total of 256 mg/dL. He was advised by his doctor to begin taking blood pressure medicine as well as Lipitor (a cholesterol lowering prescription drug). My husband decided to begin taking the blood pressure medicine, yet did not want to take the Lipitor. He felt he could lower his cholesterol total naturally through watching his diet and the use of other dietary supplements.

We began investigating natural ways to lower cholesterol and found that the diet supplement Red Yeast Rice was one of the most recommended non-prescription ways to quickly lower your cholesterol.

My husband began taking a standardized, time-released form of Red Yeast Rice in 600 mg tablets by Nature’s Plus once a day.

After four weeks of lowering his fat intake considerably, as well as taking the Red Rice Yeast supplement, his latest cholesterol test revealed he had lowered it to a total of 194. An incredible reduction of 62 points or 24%.

Although this supplement may not lower a person’s total cholesterol as much as a presciption drug may (Lipitor is known to lower it by about 29%), it may help some people lower their cholesterol more naturally.

Another benefit of using this dietary supplement is its considerable cost savings. Lipitor can cost $2.50 to $3.00 per day. A standardized, time released 600 mg tablet a day of Red Yeast Rice costs about .50 cents to .75 cents a day.

Yet, it should be noted that a person’s diet can play a role in their total cholesterol as well. Making an effort to decrease the consumption of fatty foods should also be considered in lowering your total points naturally. Dr. Weil, a well known celebrity doctor, states: “I have put many patients on red rice yeast products with excellent results.”

Other well known websites like altmedicine.about.com and MedicineNet.com on Cholesterol, report similar success rates for people using Red Rice Yeast to lower cholesterol naturally.

My wife developed high blood presure and her HDL and LDL and

treglicerides got way out of line. She started taking “Naturess

Plus” red yeast rice and Omega 3 tabs (fish oil). A year later

her LDL/HDL levels are back in line and the triglicerides are

    back to normal.

I have been taking Nature’s Plus – Red Yeast Rice Extended Rel, 600 mg, 60 tablets for over a year. I have been ordering this product through Amazon and have been totally pleased with the quality and speed of service. It is much cheaper than purchasing exactly the same product locally. And, by the way, after taking this, I no longer need to use a prescription drug to lower my cholesterol!

    Good information.
It’s also nice that the red yeast rice only lowers the “bad” cholesterol and not the “good” one and the important blood enzymes. With statindrugs this also lowers, but we need it for a good health.
